Waterfence FAQ’S2023-07-10T09:29:52+00:00
WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED TO MANUFACTURE WATERFENCE?2021-07-09T12:06:04+00:00

Virgin HDPE only.  No recycled HDPE is used in WaterFence because of possible contaminants in it.

There are differences in the characteristic between medium and high density polyethylene.  High density polyethylene offers a higher density, impact resistance and lasts longer than medium density polyethylene.

IS THERE ANY LEACHING OF ANY CHEMICALS INTO THE WATERFENCE?2021-07-09T12:07:49+00:00

NO,  Polyethylene does not leach chemicals and has been used for direct food contact for many years.

WHAT IS THE THICKNESS OF WATERFENCE?2021-07-09T12:08:29+00:00

Uniformly, .33 inches thick or 1/3 inches thick and weighs 232 lbs.

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON WATERFENCE?2021-07-09T12:09:18+00:00

WATERFENCE’S Manufacturer’s responsibility extends solely to repair and replacement of the WaterFence product and its component parts.  WATERFENCE does not assume responsibility for, nor shall be liable for, any special, incidental or consequential damages.

HOW MANY YEARS WILL MY WATERFENCE LAST?2021-07-09T12:09:59+00:00

Life expectancy of WaterFence depends upon a couple of variables. Temperature exposure, Total UV exposure. Both of these factors, have an effect on an HDPE tank. A longer-lasting storage tank is made from HDPE not MDPE. One question we hear frequently is: “How long should a high-density polyethylene tank last?” Based upon feedback from actual customers over 35 years.

IS THERE SOME WAY TO TELL WHEN MY TANKS WERE MADE?2021-07-09T12:10:54+00:00

Only sales receipts at this time.

DOES WATERFENCE USE UV PROTECTION IN YOUR HDPE?2021-07-09T12:13:14+00:00

YES,  WaterFence is molded from polyethylene compounded with the latest technology in ultraviolet (UV) light stabilizers.  The UV stabilizers will reduce the harmful effects of ultraviolet light exposure and are intended to extend the life of a tank over similar materials that are not compounded with stabilizers.

DOES WATERFENCE HAVE A UL RATING?2021-07-09T12:13:58+00:00

YES,   UL 94 groups materials into categories based on their flammability.  The polyethylene we use has undergone the horizontal flame test and has a UL94HB rating which means that specimens must not have a burn rate greater than 1.5 inches/minute for thickness between .120 and .500 inches and 3 inches/minute for a thickness less than .120 inches.

IS WATERFENCE NSF APPROVED?2021-07-09T12:14:45+00:00

YES, National Sanitary Foundation (NSF) compliance considers a number of factors for approval.  Among these are material and final configuration of the product including fittings and accessories that are exposed to the chemical.  For this reason, please consult our factory regarding NSF approval.

DOES WATERFENCE CONTAIN ANY BPA’S?2021-07-09T12:15:28+00:00

NO, Our tanks are made from polyethylene.  Bisphenol A (BPA) is not used as a component in the manufacture of polyethylene.  BPA is primarily used in polycarbonate and in epoxies’ used to line cans.  Polyethylene does not leach chemicals and has been used for direct food contact for many years.

DOES THE COLOR OF WATERFENCE GIVE ANY INDICATION AS TO THE QUALITY OF THE TANK?2021-07-09T12:16:32+00:00

NO, WaterFence is manufactured from polyethylene compounded with ultraviolet (UV) stabilizers.  The UV stabilizers will reduce the harmful effects of ultraviolet light exposure and are intended to extend the life of a tank over similar materials that are not compounded with stabilizers. All tanks may be ordered in non-standard colors such as black, green, gray or blue as an option.  The color of the tank does not increase the life expectancy or UV resistance of a tank.

DOES THE COLOR OF A TANK HAVE AN IMPACT ON ALGAE GROWTH?2021-07-09T12:17:20+00:00

WaterFence is opaque and does not allow for algae growth. Any of our colored tanks prevents light transmission.

CAN I STORE CHEMICALS OR FERTILIZERS IN WATERFENCE?2021-07-09T12:18:04+00:00

No, WaterFence is designed for water storage only. They are not for the storage of chemicals or fertilizers.

ARE YOUR TANKS FDA COMPLIANT?2021-07-09T12:18:47+00:00

WaterFence tanks are manufactured utilizing FDA compliant resins. WaterFence is for water storage. All colored tanks are in full compliance with current FDA standards for polyethylene tanks.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE THAT WATERFENCE CAN WITHSTAND?2021-07-09T12:19:22+00:00

Waterfence tanks will handle sustained temperatures of up to 175° F (79° C) and intermittent temperatures of up to 240° F (115° C).

WILL FREEZING TEMPERATURES HURT MY WATERFENCE?2021-07-09T12:20:24+00:00

It depends, freezing temperatures most of the time will not have an effect on WaterFence, however when you leave water in the tank that you know will freeze, be sure to leave sufficient room for expansion.

CAN WATERFENCE BE PRESSURIZED?2021-07-09T12:21:00+00:00

No, WaterFence cannot be pressurized or exposed to vacuum.

IS WATERFENCE REPAIRABLE THROUGH PLASTIC WELDING?2021-07-09T12:21:32+00:00

Yes, WaterFence can be repaired through welding by qualified personnel

WHAT TYPE OF SURFACE IS REQUIRED FOR PLACEMENT OF WATERFENCE?2021-07-09T12:22:04+00:00

When selecting the tank site, insure that the site is level. Seismic and wind loads? We have an FEA report that WaterFence exceeds all Ca. State requirements. NO CEMENT PADS ARE NEEDED FOR THE INSTALLAION OF WATERFENCE.

WILL PAINT ADHERE TO WATERFENCE?2021-07-09T12:22:44+00:00

Although there are products being marketed that claim to have successful adhesion to polyethylene, WaterFence does not support this practice.  Paints with adhesion promoters will work for only a limited time before peeling is experienced.  Polyethylene has a high thermal coefficient of expansion and contraction that causes the adhesion failure.
